Ohio Homesteading Field Trip
Grade: 2nd grade - 6th Grade
Available: 10:00AM - 12:30PM Tuesday - Friday (Two weeks in mid-October ONLY).

Program:
Arrive at 9:45 and prepare to step back into 1800 for a morning of living history.  Students will experience 3 hands-on educational sessions:
Candle Dipping:  Chore life in early Ohio was difficult but necessary for survival.  After learning about various techniques, lamps and waxes students will each make their own hand dipped candle.
Frontier Cooking:  Food preparation on the frontier was much different that we experience today.  Students will learn about, see, prepare and taste a pioneer staple: Johnny cakes.  These corn meal pancakes served as a regular part of the pioneers diet.
Pioneer Tools:  Two wood projects await the class. After a lesson about pioneer tools and safety the class will undertake two projects, one of which is a candlestick holder for their candle.  Also, tour a historic log cabin and consider construction and living conditions of the day.

In rainy weather the majority of the activities  are under roof.
